Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) Training with Julie Larrieu


About the Presenter
Julie A. Larrieu, Ph.D., a developmental and clinical psychologist, is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Tulane University School of Medicine. She is a senior trainer at the Institute of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and the Senior Psychologist at the Tulane Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Team, with provides intensive intervention with infants, young children and their families who are involved with the child welfare system. She is the site director for the Tulane component of the Early Trauma Treatment Network, a program within the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. This program, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is disseminating Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) for children aged birth to six who have experienced interpersonal violence and sudden loss.

About the Event
This training meets criteria for an Implementation Level Course in Child-Parent Psychotherapy.

What is CPP?
CPP is an intervention model for children ages 0-5 years who have experienced traumatic events and/or are experiencing mental health, attachment, and/or behavioral problems. Therapeutic sessions include the child and parent or primary caregiver. A central goal is to support and strengthen the caregiver-child relationship as a vehicle for restoring and protecting the child’s mental health. Treatment also focuses on contextual factors that may affect the caregiver-child relationship (e.g., cultural norms and socioeconomic and other stressors).
