THE PRESENTER

Maria Aarts is the founder of Marte Meo International, a Program that is used by Infant Mental Health Specialists, Family Support Workers, Early Childhood Educators, Disability Workers, Neonatal Nursery Staff, foster care agencies and other sectors across the life span in over 30 countries. Maria’s background is in special education. She was director of Orion, a treatment centre in the Netherlands for children with autism before developing the Marte Meo system. AAIMH (SA Branch) first brought Maria to Adelaide in 2008, and since them many people have been trained in Marte Meo.

ABOUT MARTE MEO & THE TRAINING DAY

In everyday life, there are many opportunities to support the development of children and adults. In Marte Meo, we make these moments visible opportunities to give children a ‘golden gift’ they will benefit from their entire life. For more than 40 years, Maria AArts  has developed Marte Meo as a method to encourage people to use everyday moments to develop their own potential, at their own pace and on their own strength. The central focus of the Marte Meo method is to recognise and highlight these opportunities, which helps people use them to improve the quality of their lives. Maria gathered all her information about development from observations of everyday life. This makes the application of Marte Meo such a uniquely appropriate and practical tool for improving the quality of interactions in everyday life.

In this training Maria will use video clips to illustrate how to use Marte Meo Supportive Communication Skills to connect with and activate the development of every child
